The launching movie of comedian Vice Ganda is a certified box-office hit!
In just 5 days, Petrang Kabayo raked in a total gross of P53.24 million according to Box Office Mojo. But according to Viva Films, the comedy movie already earned P107 million on its first 6 days, so it doubled in just one day?
Whoever got the correct figure (another case of double padding perhaps from Viva?), its undeniable that Petrang Kabayo is one of the biggest hit of the year. I myself have seen the long lines of folks at SM MOA for the said movie. It could even surpass the P142.25 million record of Miss You Like Crazy as the top grossing pinoy movie of 2010.
What do you think? Kaya ba?
Here’s the Philippine box office tally for the opening weekend of October 13 to 17, 2010 according to Box Office Mojo:
Viva Films has released the full trailer of their upcoming comedy movie “Petrang Kabayo” starring Vice Ganda.
“Petrang Kabayo”, a remake of the 1988 film of the same title with Roderick Paulate in the title role, is the launching movie of Vice Ganda (Goldwin Trinidad in real life) after doing support roles in past films such as “Apat Dapat,” “Condo”, “Noy”, “In My Life” and “Hating Kapatid”.
Also starring in Petrang Kabayo (2010) are Sam Pinto, Candy Pangilinan, DJ Durano, John Arcilla, Makisig Morales, Ricky Rivero, Joy Vidao, Eagle Riggs, Ms. Gloria Diaz and leading men Tom Rodriguez and Luis Manzano with the special participation of Eugene Domingo.
Directed by Wenn V. Deramas, Petrang Kabayo opens in theaters nationwide this September.
GMA Films, Viva Films and Unitel released the movie poster and trailer of Working Girls 2010 starring Ruffa Gutierrez, Iza Calzado, Cristine Reyes, Jennylyn Mercado and Eugene Domingo.
Also in the cast are Eula Valdez, Bianca King, Mylene Dizon, Cherie Gil, GMA Films Executive Joey Abacan, and few of the original cast such as Carmi Martin, Rio Locsin, Maria Isabel Lopez and Ms. Gina Pareño.
The male cast, on the other hand, include Rafael Rosell, Antonio Aquitania, Jao Mapa, Biboy Ramirez and Ricky Davao.
PLOT: Women of different status, profession, and principles become connected by association or circumstance.
Dr. Cleo Carrillo (Eula Valdez) is a famous dermatologist, whose roster of high-profile clients include beauty queen turned society empress Marilou Cobarrubias (Ruffa Gutierrez) and socialite Betchay Magbutay-Cavendish (Carmi Martin). Cleo is married to a cardiologist, Dr. Vincent Carrillo. But her success comes with zealous detractors and nasty lawsuits, something which Marilou can relate to.
Marilou is widowed by her aged and ultra-rich husband, and her daughter-in-law, Amanda dela Vega, has arranged that she gets nothing except a small condo unit and a business on the verge of bankruptcy. Now, Marilou has to learn to get by on her own, something which her cousin, Tere Villanueva (Iza Calzado), has been doing since she was young.
Tere works as a nurse, and becomes particularly close to an old woman named Amelia Marcelino. Tere sees herself in the dying woman and fears that she too might end up alone since she has been traumatized by her one great love, Leon. But as if fate is teasing her, Tere is assigned to watch over a patient who happens to be Leon’s wife.
Tere’s best friend, Ada Villanueva (Jennylyn Mercado) is also suffering from heartache and regret for not accepting the marriage proposal of Jonathan, the father of her child. And now Jonathan is engaged to someone else. As an Executive Producer at a television network, Ada is able to raise her son, but barely has time to personally take care of him.
Children are the least of the worries of Dara dela Vega (Bianca King). This spoiled daughter of Amanda is being given the cold shoulder at the same TV network where Ada works. Her arrogance for having studied in the US irks even the host of the show where she is a Junior Production Assistant. Aside from Ada, the only person who treats her nicely is Bogey, the cameraman, who advises her to adjust to the ways of her co-workers.
Jonathan’s friend in the Call Center, Tobz, is seeing an ambitious girl who claims that she is a model. Wendy Casuga (Cristine Reyes) idolizes beauty queens who become socialites, just like Marilou Cobarrubias. She frequents the so called go-sees for casting of television commercials and television shows, and is sometimes accepted as an “extra”. Unknown to Tobz, Wendy is not the least serious with him. She is after men who are rich, but insists that she will not get involved with married men, unlike her best friend Baby, who is having an affair with Melvin Cabigting.
Melvin is married to Paula Cabigting (Eugene Domingo). Paula is hardworking, trying out every kind of business she can think of, while Melvin is doing nothing since he got back from the US, having been affected by the recession. Paula cannot even rely on Melvin to drive for her to deliver goods to her clients that she still has to hire a service vehicle owned by a bachelor, Nelson Obleta. Thus begins another complicated relationship.
Each with their own troubles, these Working Girls just try to belong and be loved.
The people behind Viva Films, the outfit producing the Judy Ann Santos and Sarah Geronimo starrer tentatively titled “Hating Kapatid,” is in full throttle promoting the film, making sure it becomes a major success. Hating Kapatid has the makings of a would-be blockbuster film, and if it becomes a certified one, it will be Sarah’s third consecutive blockbuster movie in a row — a feat only a few Pinoy actor/actress ever achieved. And with Judy Ann in tow, sigurado na ang pagtabo nito sa takilya. Ang hihintayin nalang natin ay kung ilang milyon ang kikitain nito sa box office, at kung gagawa ba ito ng kasaysayan as one of the top Pinoy movies of all time.
Here’s the release that AccessPinoy got from Viva about “Hating Kapatid:”
This early, the local moviedom is celebrating already because of the much-awaited major movie project under Viva Films starring Judy Ann Santos and Sarah Geronimo.
Viva big boss Vic del Rosario is proud of the movie. He said, This is the first time that Juday and Sarah will be seen in a movie. That is a casting coup in itself. But other than the two of them, we also enlisted veteran actress Gina Pareño and Luis Manzano to join the cast. This is big.
The Viva producer also made sure that the movie will have the most excellent production values. Films also tapped the tried-and-tested tandem of Wenn Deramas and Mel Mendoza-del Rosario to direct and write the film, respectively. The biggest movie the two have worked on was the groundbreaking Ang Tanging Ina and its sequel starring Ai-Ai delas Alas.
The Judy Ann-Sarah movie, working title is Hating Kapatid, tells the story of sisters Rica and Cecilia who love each other so much that they are willing to sacrifice even their personal happiness to stay together.
The romance-comedy will make viewers laugh, cry, think, wish to fall and stay in love and realize that family members should be friends, too. Judy Ann and Sarah will showcase their outstanding comedic talents and their ability to make people cry.
But the Judy Ann-Sarah ticket is not the only tandem that people await in their movie. For the first time, Luis will play Sarah’s love interest. Also in the cast is Vice Ganda.
Judy Ann and Sarah bring to the table an unrivaled record of achievements in their respective careers that have made them the biggest stars of their generations.
Judy Ann is an award-winning and multi-nominated film and television actress. Since entering showbiz in 1986, she has appeared in more than 70 blockbuster movies with 12 Best Actress awards. Judy Ann stars on ABS-CBN’s Habang May Buhay.
Sarah, on the other hand, has been acknowledged both by the public and her peers as heir-apparent to concert and recording royalties what with hits and shows. She also has blockbusters You Changed My Life and A Very Special Love with John Lloyd Cruz.
Viva Films is bringing back the sexy comedy film in the 80’s – Working Girls!

Although Hilda Koronel and Baby Delgado are not returning in the said sequel, new characters will be introduced. To be helmed by Jose Javier Reyes, Working Girls 2010 is definitely one of the most exciting local movies to hit theaters next year.

Kumporme rito ang producer, dahil after 25 years, kailangan daw muling mapanood ang pelikula with a new cast.

Iskul Bukol: 20 Years After, on the other hand, entered the Top 10 with a haul of P72.6 million on the same period.

"Okay na okay ang first shooting day namin.
By November, balik Star Cinema si Direk Wenn.
"It's another fantaserye at isang remake ulit. Mas bongga sa Kokey. Gagawin namin ni Ai-Ai ang Volta: The Series sa ABS-CBN," kuwento ni Direk Wenn.
On September 15 ay magse-celebrate ng kanyang birthday si Direk Wenn. Wish niya ay kumita ang lahat pelikula niya sa mga sinehan.

I.T.A.L.Y. Official Movie Soundtrack Feat. Jolina Magdangal's "The Will of the Wind"
Synopsis GMA Films' I.T.A.L.Y. (I Trust And Love You) Teaser Trailer, Promo Pictures, and OST GMA Films will treat its viewers to a sidesplitting comedy that tackles the lives of Filipinos working onboard cruise ships via their third quarter movie offering I.T.A.L.Y. (I Trust and Love You).
The movie stars Jolina Magdangal, Dennis Trillo, Eugene Domingo, Mark Herras and Rufa Mae Quinto.
Jolina Magdangal plays the role of Des Pinlac, a hopeless romantic who works as a chambermaid at the ship. The wannabe bride is looking for her perfect groom and all the signs indicate that Paolo Guzman (played by Dennis Trillo) is The One.
Dennis Trillo is paired with an Italian actress named Andrea de Lugo (back to camera). She is signed up with Viva Records and is scheduled to come to the Philippines to promote her album here.
The lounge singer of the Costa Magica named Stella Sembrano is portrayed by Rufa Mae Quinto. She is also looking for love but it has contantly eluded her.
Rhian Ramos portrays Phoebe Villaroso, a rebellious brat who does what she wants. She falls in love with the plain-looking cabin crew member Nathan Reyes played byMark Herras.
Eugene Domingo portrays the role of Lovely Mercado, a senior housekeeper.
The cast visited 3 continents (Asia, Europe, and Africa), 5 countries, and 13 cities to shoot I.T.A.L.Y.
Movie Reviews It is supposed to herald the return of ’80s matinee idol Gabby Concepcion to the acting scene, after 13 years of brokering properties in the West Coast in continental US of A.
But, something happened while the cast of I.T.A.L.Y. (I Trust and Love You) was preparing for their travel to Rome, the first stop in a multi-city location. Concepcion backed out of his commitment to play lead opposite Jolina Magdangal who was devastated when she learned of the actor’s decision.
The movie even if Gabby spurned his role is now ready for its theatrical run. And guess what, Jolina even got luckier to have a much younger actor for a leading man.
Dennis Trillo easily slithered into the role abandoned by Concepcion.
Showing on Aug. 6, I.T.A.L.Y. is the first-ever movie shot on board a cruise ship, a cutting-edge record on Philippine filmmaking industry. It takes pride for having a heart-rending storyline, seductively enchanting locations, colossal production and disarmingly talented cast members. This motion picture painstakingly crossed three different continents—Asia, Europe, and Africa—a delight and refreshing treat to Filipino moviegoers.
Filmed on board Costa Magica, a luxury cruise that travels to the world’s most enthralling destinations, I.T.A.L.Y. exposes the adversities and personal sacrifice and the lighter side of the lives of OFWs. It revolves on six people with six different personalities, stories, ambitions and struggles. In a span of their magical voyage for seven days, their lives will crisscross amid unexpected possibilities.
Having a powerhouse cast that battled seasickness in the course of their cruise on the high seas of the Mediterranean makes it truly a film worth watching.
Jolina Magdangal plays Des Pinlac, a hopeless romantic working as a chambermaid on the ship. Finding the right man is her fervent wish but things haven’t been good so far. Rufa Mae Quinto is Stella Sembrano who practically surrendered her fate to the seas. She is the cruise’s lounge singer who patiently waits for the perfect man, not like her father and past boyfriends who abandoned her.
Dennis Trillo is Paolo Guzman. He joined the cruise to find the missing pieces of a woman in his past that keeps haunting him.
Eugene Domingo is Lovely Mercado, a senior housekeeper who believes it is never too late to find true and everlasting love. With two failed attempts to tie the knot, Lovely holds the key in connecting Paolo with the woman in his past.
Rhian Ramos is Phoebe Villaroso, a brat who lavishly does whatever she wants. Contrary to her rebellious character, she falls for the plain-looking cabin crewmember while on board the cruise ship.
And lastly, Mark Herras is Nathan Reyes. Orphaned at a young age, he has to work for his family and ends up a member of the cruise’s cabin crew. Coincidentally, he stumbles upon Phoebe and unexpectedly falls in love with her. The bitter pill of their love affair is that they are separated by two different worlds.
I.T.A.L.Y. is another venture of GMA Films, the same movie outfit responsible for Ouija and My Bestfriend’s Girlfriend.
Philippines to be hot filming location
Senate President Manny Villar said with the numerous attractions it offers, the Philippines continues to earn the distinction as a prime filming destination among foreign film industries, including Hollywood.
Villar, who is also president of the Nacionalista Party, noted that the natural beauty of the Philippines is one of the reasons why more and more international movie stars have expressed desire to work in the country.
“Of late, no other than Oscar award winner Reese Witherspoon has indicated that she wants to film a movie here,” Villar said.
Villar filed Senate Bill 2404, which seeks to promote the country’s potential as a prime film tourist destination showcasing the various islands of the country as the perfect setting for movies, TV shows, music videos and other media projects.
He added that the Philippines is now in the spotlight with the inclusion of four attractions in the Top Ten of the Seven New Wonders of Nature nominees namely, the Tubbataha Reef, Chocolate Hills, Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park and Mayon Volcano.
“The Film Tourism Act will highlight the country’s globally competent filmmakers, state-of-the-art production facilities and capable technical crew who are willing and ready to assist foreign production and media outfits,” he said.
The bill also seeks to exempt the film productions and institutions and other service providers involved in the film tourism industry from payment of EVAT and customs duties for the importation of cinema equipment and facilities necessary for their operation.
“Also, with the help of overseas Filipino workers associations around the world, we are confident that information regarding film tourism in the country will be widely disseminated,” Villar said.
Manio Events to produce Luna Awards
The Film Academy of the Philippines has formally appointed Manio Events Management to produce the upcoming 26th Annual Luna Awards show and festivities.
The appointment was finalized during a recent contract-signing between FAP director general Leo Martinez and Moises Manio, president of Manio Events Management, which has a track record of producing successful concerts and shows.
Among the concerts Manio Events has mounted are Heartthrobs (Piolo Pascual and Sam Milby), Sharon Live at Island Cove (Sharon Cuneta) and the recent Catch Me (Toni Gonzaga).
The FAP will soon announce the nominations in all categories, to be followed by the traditional Nominees’ Lunch (where certificates and mini-Luna trophies will be given to nominees). The activities will culminate with a formal awards show to be held at the SMX Convention Center on Aug. 30 to be telecast by Studio 23 on the same night.
Flicker piracy tackled in seminar
The Motion Picture Anti-Film Piracy Council conducted a one-day seminar on flicker piracy as part of its intensified anti-piracy activities with 100 participants including producers, theater operators and personnel and other stake holders in the film industry.
The seminar-workshop, part of the council’s activities under its “Suportahan ang industriya ng Pelikula… Sugpuin ang mga Pirata” program, was held at the Kalayaan Hall 3 of Club Filipino in Greenhills Commercial Center, San Juan City, last June 17.
Flicker piracy is the system of shooting or copying films being shown in our cinemahouses through camera recording using gadgets from the simple cell phone to more sophisticated recording equipment.
Ric Camaligan, Anti-Film Piracy Council president, welcomed officials of the Metro Manila Development Authority and the Presidential Management Staff, as well as representatives of mayors and vice mayors in Metropolitan Manila.
The MMDA and the PMS have been subsidizing the activities of the Anti-Film Piracy Council for the past several years, including this intensified flicker piracy campaign.
Lawyer Joji Alonso, also a film producer and counsel to the Anti-Piracy Council, presented a power point discussion and lecture on flicker piracy and later joined a panel during an open forum.
The panel included State Prosecutor Geromino Sy of the Department of Justice; lawyer Elfren Meneses, director of the Intellectual Property Rights Division of the National Bureau of Investigation; director Ruel Lasala of the NCR Intelligence Division of the NBI; and officers of the Anti-Film Piracy Council.
Manny Nuqui, council vice chairman, said that the seminar basically was held in order for everyone to reach a consensus to put more teeth into the government’s anti-piracy campaign, especially on flicker piracy.
“The council officers and Alonso agreed that the main objective of the seminar is to solicit the firm commitment from the Justice Department and the NBI in the arrest and prosecution of flicker pirates,” Nuqui stressed.
City and town mayors and their councils were asked and encouraged to come up with appropriate ordinances to enable law enforces in dealing with these violators, he added.
Nuqui said that they will still need the government’s active support in this particular campaign.
Council president Camaligan, who is also the senior vice president for entertainment of SM Philippines, said that the seminar focused on “camcording” or flicker piracy which is described as the illegal shooting or copying of full-length films directly from cinema screens during and after exhibition with the use of camera recording equipment or even camera phones.
Camaligan added that filmnapping is the other illegal method of film piracy which involves stealing a whole film print during shipment to and from provincial theatrical exhibitions.
