Ang Agimat ni Enteng

2010 MMFF Entries, mmf 2010, Ang Agimat ni Enteng
Two of the biggest names in the movie industry collaborate in one ambitious movie that could top this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival.

“Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote” combines two MMFF box-office kings, Vic Sotto and Bong Revilla, in an ambitious project produced by five film companies: GMA Films, Revilla’s Imus Production, OctoArts Films, APT Entertainment and Sotto’s M-Zet Films.

The humor of Vic Sotto and the action stunts of Bong Revilla make this film a must-see movie that every Pinoy is anticipating during the MMFF season. This is also the first time that Sotto and Revilla will star in a movie together.

In “Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote”, Vic Sotto will once again play his popular role as Enteng Kabisote while Bong Revilla will play his trademark role as Agimat. Also starring in the film are Gwen Zamora as Faye, Sam Pinto as Samara, Aiza Seguerra as Aiza Kabisote, Oyo Sotto as Benok Kabisote, Mikylla Ramirez as Ada Kabisote, Amy Perez as Ina Magenta and Bing Loyzaga as Satana.

The supporting cast includes Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, Ritchie D’ Horsie, Ruby Rodriguez, Barbie Forteza, Joshua Dionisio, Jhake Vargas, Bea Binene, Jillian Ward and Aubrey Miles. Joey de Leon and Rufa Mae Quinto will do a cameo role.

The Premise:

There is trouble brewing in the world of Agimat and monsters are scaring and kidnapping children. The monsters seem capable of travelling in other worlds and Agimat is able to crossover with them to Encantasia, the world of Faye, Ina Magenta and our hero, Enteng Kabisote. The fairies wonder why monsters are able to cross worlds.

Agimat is amazed of the other world and hopes that things in his world would turn out better. His dream one day is to have a happy family like Enteng’s.

The story unfolds. Satana is the one ordering the monsters to snatch children so that she can use their blood to revive Ragat, the powerful lord of darkness. Satana will also need a blood of a fairy, and Faye is the perfect choice.

Enteng now has to rescue his wife. And he will get Agimat to help him battle the monsters and the dark lord.

Jake Cuenca Cares for Marian Rivera

jake cuenca, marian rivera, super inday
There is no denying the fact that actor Jake Cuenca is smitten with the charm and beauty of new screen partner Marian Rivera.

Jake and Marian are paired for the first time in Regal Entertainment’s Metro Manila Film Festival entry, “Super Inday.”

The production staff and crew can attest to how extra sweet Jake is to Dingdong Dantes’ real-life girlfriend.

“Tuwing may shooting sina Marian at Jake, lagi itong may

Ang sarap siguro talaga niyang magmahal!” relates a “Super Inday” staff.

In the 2010 remake of the classic Maricel Soriano starrer, Jake plays the role of Amazing who, like Super Inday (Marian), has supernatural powers.

Together, Amazing and Super Inday battle evildoers and fall in love in the process. The two are yet to shoot their “sizzling” kissing scene, though.

Providing the film’s comic touch are comedians Pokwang and John Lapus (as the Golden Bibe).

“Super Inday” is one of Regal matriarch Lily Monteverde’s favorite Regal productions. She and daughter Roselle Monteverde-Teo gave the movie a more contemporary feel coupled with state-of-the-art special effects for kiddie viewers and the entire family to enjoy this Christmas season.

“Super Inday” will hit the screens starting December 25 as part of the 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival.

‘Petrang Kabayo’ Tops RP Box-Office with P53.24M in First 5 Days

box office, Petrang Kabayo, viva films
The launching movie of comedian Vice Ganda is a certified box-office hit!

In just 5 days, Petrang Kabayo raked in a total gross of P53.24 million according to Box Office Mojo. But according to Viva Films, the comedy movie already earned P107 million on its first 6 days, so it doubled in just one day?

Whoever got the correct figure (another case of double padding perhaps from Viva?), its undeniable that Petrang Kabayo is one of the biggest hit of the year. I myself have seen the long lines of folks at SM MOA for the said movie. It could even surpass the P142.25 million record of Miss You Like Crazy as the top grossing pinoy movie of 2010.

What do you think? Kaya ba?

Here’s the Philippine box office tally for the opening weekend of October 13 to 17, 2010 according to Box Office Mojo:

Sid Lucero, On Top of the World with Emmy Nomination and Top-Rating Program

Alyna, sid lucero
Actor Sid Lucero marked another milestone in his young career after being nominated for Best Actor at the 2010 International Emmy Awards for his performance on the ABS-CBN teleserye “Dahil May Isang Ikaw,” which is also nominated in the prestigious award-giving body for Best Telenovela.

Sid, who currently stars in the top-rating afternoon drama “Precious Hearts Romances Presents Alyna,” said he is very proud to be the only Filipino actor up for a trophy in the prestigious award-giving body.

“I was somewhere, having my tattoo done when I heard about it. Ang weird ng timing, namimilipit pa ako sa sakit. I was so happy. Di ako makapaniwala. Naramdaman ko na lang na totoo when people started texting and calling me. Then tiningnan ko ang website and read my name there, tapos parang ah, totoo nga,” he shared.

Like Angel Locsin, who earned a nod at the International Emmys last year, Sid is excited to attend the awarding ceremony and possibly mingle with actors like Bob Hopkins and Helena Bonham Carter.

“My dad (Mark Gil) said, ‘Just remember that you will not go there as yourself.’ I told him, ‘Yes dad. I am going there as the proudest Filipino ever,’” said the award-winning actor.

Even his co-stars in “Alyna” praised the acting prowess of Sid. “It’s always an honor to be working with one of the most talented actors in the industry,” said Shaina Magdayao.

Jason Abalos, who once tied with Sid in Gawad Urian for Best Actor in 2008, revealed he is amazed by how his rival in the show transforms to his character during takes.

“Ako kasi observant ako. ‘Pag may nakikilala akong magaling na artista, kinikilala ko yung pagkatao nila eh. Si Sid, ‘yung buhay niya parang ang gaan lang pero pag nag-emote na siya sa isang eksena, parang ang bigat-bigat na ng mundo niya,” he explained.

With or without the nomination, the talented trio is very proud of their show’s strong ratings. And one of their fans is no other than Martha Cecilia, who wrote the pocketbook where “Alyna” was based.

“Narinig ko nga na sobrang nagustuhan niya ‘yung scene na pinaanak ni Dominic si Alyna. Maraming salamat din sa kanya for creating Alyna, Dominic and Rex. Napakaganda talaga ng istoryang isinulat niya,” Shaina said.

Rancho Del Carmen will be rocked again by major confrontations as Rex (Sid) returns to fight for Alyna and their child. Will Alyna (Shaina) take back the man who deceived her or continue with her blooming romance with Dominic (Jason)? What will Lilet (Kaye Abad) do when she finds out that her husband Rex married and impregnated another woman?
Get all the answers on “Precious Hearts Romances Presents Alyna” from Monday to Friday after “Rosalka” on ABS-CBN.

John Lloyd Cruz is Toni Gonzaga’s Next Leading Man in an Upcoming Romantic Movie

john lloyd cruz, star cinema, toni gonzaga
The Box-office King and the Multimedia Star will be paired next in an upcoming romantic comedy by Star Cinema.

Toni Gonzaga might have lost a film project pairing her with Pambansang Idol Robin Padilla but Star Cinema offered her a new one! This time, her leading man is no less than the Box Office King himself, John Lloyd Cruz.

John Lloyd revealed this news last weekend after his meeting with Star Cinema. “I am very excited to work with her and makita kung ano yung madi-discover namin sa isa’t-isa sa loob ng project na ito. Kasi ang ganda-ganda ng kwento. Rom-com (romantic comedy) siya,” he shared.

This is the first team up John Lloyd Cruz (A Very Special Love, You Changed My Life) and Toni Gonzaga (You are the One, You Got Me, My Only U). The romantic comedy films they both did in the past with other partners, John Lloyd with Sarah Geronimo and Toni with Sam Milby, are box-office hits. This time they will be paired together in another romantic comedy project that spells “winning combination” for Star Cinema that will surely threaten to erase box-office records.

‘Hating Kapatid’ Earns P42.3M on its Opening Weeked According to Box-Office Mojo

box office, hating kapatid
Contrary to reports that the Judy Ann Santos-Sarah Geronimo starrer raked-in P80 million on its first week, Box-office Mojo said it’s just a little more than half of the said figure.

It was reported on the official Facebook page of the film “Hating Kapatid” last Monday that the movie has grossed P80 million on its first week. Take note that it was posted last Monday and the film is just about to finish its first week run on Tuesday.

Some entertainment blogs and websites, on the other hand, reported that the Viva Films comedy raked in P75 million on it’s opening weekend.
They mentioned that the figure came from Viva Films.

Meanwhile, third party tabulator Box Office Mojo released the Philippine box office receipts for the weekend period of July 21 to 25. According to the website, Hating Kapatid had $927,281 or P42.3 million which is very far from the earlier reported P75 and P80 million.

However, the official box-office gross of the film should come from Viva Films. If the film outfit indeed released the report that Hating Kapatid earned P75 to P80 million last week (or weekend for that matter), then why does the figure from Box-Office Mojo is only a little more than half of the said amount?

We’ve been posting box-office reports from Box-Office Mojo for quite some time now and I must say that their figures never go far from what the film outfits like Star Cinema, Regal Films, etc. has been releasing. If there’s a difference, it’s just a matter of few thousands or hundred thousands but it doesn’t mean that it’s not accurate. Just like in probability and statistics, there’s a margin of error but the gap will just be small. But the amount P75/P80 million is very far from P42.3 million so it’s either Viva Films or Box-Office Mojo got it right.

Nevertheless, if Hating Kapatid indeed got P42.3 million, it’s still a box-office success because we know that it will surpass P50 million on its entire run. But the hope of it to become the 4th Filipino film to surpass the P100 million mark after “Miss You Like Crazy”, “Here Comes the Bride” and “You to Me are Everything” became dim.

But who knows, maybe Viva Films will say otherwise.

‘Cinco’ Earns P49.96 Million in 2 Weeks

Cinco, Star Cinema
Star Cinema’s first horror movie for the year 2010 almost hit P50 million on its second week according to Box-Office Mojo.

The local horror movie “Cinco” reportedly earned P11 million on its stormy first day. For the weekend period of July 14 to 18, 2010 (first 5 days), Box-Office Mojo said it raked-in P38.59 million. The debut was almost tied with the opening weekend haul of Walt Disney’s “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” which had P38.51 million.

While “Cinco” lost some steam on its second week, “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” delivered magic. The local horror film had a second weekend gross of P11.36 million and the Hollywood film got P20.29 million. Cinco’s 2-weeks total is now P49.96 while The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’s 2-week total is now P66.88 million.

But topping the local box-office for the weekend of July 21-25 is the critical flop “The Last Airbender.” The M. Night Shyamalan film was the most-watched movie last weekend with a 5-day gross of P56.11 million.

Here is the Top 10 films in Philippine Box-Office for the weekend period of July 21 to 25, 2010 based on the report by the Box Office Mojo:

2. Hating Kapatid – P42.3M

‘In My Life’ Makes a Grand Philippine TV Premiere on Cinema One

n my life, john lloyd cruz, luis manzano, vilma santos
After breaking box office records and reaping numerous accolades last year, Star Cinema’s 2009 film, “In My Life” makes a grand Philippine TV premiere on the country’s no.1 cable channel, Cinema One.

Topbilled by Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos, John Lloyd Cruz and Luis Manzano, In My Life is set to premiere on Cinema One’s Blockbuster Sundays, July 18, at 8pm.

In My Life is a heartwarming story about family, friendship, love, and acceptance that puts the spotlight to Shirley (Santos), a middle-aged librarian and single mother who accepted the invitation of his son Mark (Manzano) to visit him in New York. With the help of Mark’s lover, Noel (Cruz), Shirley tries to start a new life to get away from her problems while also trying to rekindle her estranged relationship with her son. But just when things are starting to get better for Shirley in the Big Apple, she slowly discovers a dark secret her son is keeping from her.

A masterpiece from director Olivia Lamasan, In My Life takes pride in bringing back Vilma Santos into the big screen after seven years of not making movies. To make it more special, “Ate Vi” was starred alongside Box Office King John Lloyd and her son Luis—a very first not only for the Star for All Seasons but for the two young actors as well.

In My Life’s winning story made it one of the most awarded films for 2009, bagging Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director and Best Picture in several respected award-giving bodies. It received five awards from the 8th Gawad Tanglaw, seven from the 26th PMPC Star Awards for Movies, and three from the 41st Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Awards, among others.

In My Life gave Santos the Best Actress awards from Gawad Tanglaw, Gawad Suri, PMPC Star Awards, 41st GMMA, and 1st MTRCB Film Awards. Cruz, meanwhile, received Best Actor awards from 41st GMMA, 26th PMPC Star Awards; Gawad PASADO; 8th Gawad Tanglaw and 1st MTRCB Awards. In My Life also gave Manzano his first acting awards, including Star Awards’ Best Movie Supporting Actor of the Year; GAWAD Tanglaw’s Best Supporting Actor 2010 and just recently 41st Box Office Entertainment Awards of the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation’s Film Actor of the Year.

Apart from awards, In My Life gained positive reviews from moviegoers and critics alike. The Philippine Daily Inquirer opinion columnist and acclaimed film critic Nestor Torre commended the film saying, “In My Life is still the most empathetic mainstream production we’ve seen this year, thanks to its leads’ sensitive portrayals and the relative fluidity and topicality of Lamasan’s storytelling. Finally, the film is a personal triumph for Vilma Santos, whose feisty and committed performance proves that, in her mid-50s, she’s at the peak of her artistry. At a time when teleserye overacting has compromised the work of many veteran stars, Vilma shows the way back to passionate, principled excellence.”

Don’t miss the Philippine TV premiere of In My Life on July 18, Sunday, on Cinema One and re-discover how the “relationship of two men teaches a woman to move on and live again”.

Cinema One is owned by Creative Programs, Inc., and distributed nationwide by Power Bundle. Creative Programs, Inc. is a subsidiary of ABS-CBN. Cinema is available on SkyCable Gold SkyCable Silver and other quality cable operators nationwide.

Pink Halo–Halo shows how war in Mindanao affects a child’s innocence. It is a film by Joselito Altarejos, director of “Ang Lalaki sa Parola”, and starring Allen Dizon, Angeli Bayani, Dexter Doria, Mark Fabillar and Paolo Constantino.

Pink Halo–Halo is the first Philippine movie shot entirely in Masbateño language.

Synopsis:

Natoy, like any other child, finds joy and excitement in the simplest of things, especially eating halo-halo filled with pink gelatin and red sago. Things change suddenly when, as he is watching television, a news report about the ongoing war in Mindanao shows footage of a badly wounded soldier waiting for rescue . That soldier almost bleeding to death is his father, Corporal Lino Bolante.

That report starts his journey as he and his mother Sonia wait for help that comes too late. As far away as the war, this story does not just show how the war in Mindanao robs a child of his innocence, but also shows the shadows of the wars that Filipino homes confront everyday.
