Dingdong Dantes Optimistic About ‘Tiktik’

Kapuso primetime royalty Dingdong Dantes is very optimistic about the success of his ground-breaking horror film, “Tiktik: The Aswang Chronices,” which opened today, October 17, in theaters nationwide.

The movie, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Erik Matti, is pioneering in its use of digital set extension via chroma key or “green screen” technology in all of its sequences. The film, arguably the biggest horror film of 2012, is shot entirely in green screen and utilises a combination of live action footage and three-dimensional computer graphics (CG).
In his rounds of radio promotions for the film starting with GMA’s flagship radio stations DZBB (AM) and Barangay LS 97.1 (FM), Dantes expressed pride for his film, which took more than a year to create.
“Very entertaining talaga yung pelikula. Bukod sa pagiging isang horror film niya, nandun din ang action at comedy, at makikita mo rin sa pelikula yung true Filipino values pagdating sa pamilya, and definitely, it’s an eye candy,” Dingdong said.
“Tiktik” also stars Lovi Poe, Joey Marquez, Janice de Belen, LJ Reyes, Ramon Bautista, RJ Salvador, Mike Gayoso, Montito Almario, Jeff Fernandez, John Harley, Cris Pastor, Roi Vinzon and Rina Reyes.
The film is produced by five production outfits namely Reality Entertainment, Agostodos Pictures (owned by Dingdong Dantes), Reality Entertainment’s sister companies and post-production arms PostManila and Mothership and GMA Films.
Watch out for the biggest horror movie of the year — “Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles” — coming to nationwide theatres beginning October 17. The film is rated PG by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), meaning children below 13 years old may watch the movie as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles’ Production Cost is Almost P80 Million

During the press conference of the upcoming horror film “Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles” the producers of the film confirmed reports that they have apparently spent close to P80 million for its production.

Given the complexity of the film’s effects, it is not unlikely that its total cost would reach close to the rumoured amount, explained the producers. While the live action sequences were shot within just 28 days (still unusually longer than most local productions), the post-production stage took more than a year to complete.
Starring Dingdong Dantes with Lovi Poe, Joey Marquez and Janice de Belen, the film by acclaimed director Erik Matti is produced by five different film companies: Reality Entertainment, Agostodos Pictures (owned by Dingdong Dantes), Reality Entertainment’s sister companies and post-production arms PostManila and Mothership and GMA Films.
“Tiktik,” which is poised to be the biggest and perhaps the most expensive horror movie of 2012, is the only full-length Filipino film shot entirely in chroma key or “green screen” technology. It also utilised somewhere between 30 and 40 computer graphics (CG) artists to create the complex three-dimensional environments and creatures which were seamlessly incorporated into the live action footage. “Tiktik” joins the ranks of only a handful of films shot in this kind of technology including the Hollywood produced “300″ and “Avatar.”
“Isa lang ang hangarin namin nang ginagawa namin into: to entertain. Sa amin, wala kaming tinipid; lahat ng kaya namin ay ibinigay namin dito,” said lead star and co-producer Dingdong Dantes.
Also starring in “Tiktik: The Aswang Chronices” are LJ Reyes, Ramon Bautista, RJ Salvador, Mike Gayoso, Montito Almario, Jeff Fernandez, John Harley, Cris Pastor, Roi Vinzon and Rina Reyes.

Derek Ramsay and Anne Curtis Reunite in ‘A Secret Affair’

Derek Ramsay and Anne Curtis, stars of last year’s blockbuster “No Other Woman” which holds the record for being the highest-grossing Filipino dramatic movie of all time, reunite in “A Secret Affair.”

The movie is said to be a follow-up to “No Other Woman” with Andi Eigenmann joining the tandem of Ramsay and Curtis to complete the love triangle.
The three stars, considered today’s hottest and busiest, figure in a sizzling, dramatic tale of love, lust and deceit. Ramsay and Curtis are a couple whose relationship is seriously challenged with the intrusion of a third party, played by Andi.
The movie has all the elements that made “No Other Woman” such a phenomenon—a great-looking cast, an engaging story, memorable dialogue peppered with quotable quotes, beautiful locations, and the
trademark gloss of classic VIVA melodramas. But it’s even sexier and more stylish, with more lavish sets and eye-popping production values. It’s also bigger in scope as it touches on family and friendship. Both Anne and Andi play strong, feisty characters but with different sensibilities molded by their family backgrounds and
situations. The movie is also even more contemporary, as it shows how relationships are shaped by new media these days.
“A Secret Affair” promises to cement Anne’s reputation as one of the very best actresses of the new generation, as well as Derek’s image as today’s top sexy actor. The movie also heralds the arrival of Andi as a new movie drama princess.
Directed by teleserye veteran Nuel Crisostomo Naval from a story and screenplay by award-winning writer Mel Mendoza-del Rosario, “A Secret Affair” boasts a formidable supporting cast led by acclaimed veterans Jaclyn Jose, Joel Torre, and Jackie Lou Blanco. It also features Say Alonzo, IC Mendoza, Shy Carlos, Petra Mahalimuyak, and Gee-Ann Abraham.
“A Secret Affair” is set to open in theaters nationwide on October 24, 2012.

The film’s unprecedented success started as early as its premiere night last Tuesday, July 24 when “The Healing” zoomed as the no.1 trending topic worldwide on Twitter where tweets flooded on the popular microblogging site from netizens who got all excited to watch the latest Star Cinema offering.
True enough, the immense public excitement for “The Healing” drew huge crowds to different cinemas nationwide and resulted to long queues of moviegoers on the first day of showing alone. The Rono masterpiece has instantly became such a big hit that some mall owners have decided to add more cinemas this weekend to accommodate the upsurge of expected audience.
Under the production of Star Cinema, “The Healing” was given the highest grade of “A” by the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB).

One Minute Movie Review: ‘The Healing’

“The Healing” is another engaging horror flick by Chito RoƱo that generates a respectable amount of suspense. (Warning: few spoilers are mentioned)

The Healing
Main Cast: Kim Chiu, Vilma Santos
Supporting Cast: Janice de Belen, Mark Gil, Martin del Rosario, Pokwang, Ynes Veneracion, Cris Villanueva
Director: Chito S. RoƱo
Genre: Horror, Suspense
Distributed by: Star Cinema
MTRCB Rating: R-13 and R-18
CEB Rating: A
Synopsis: A community rushes to a faith healer after learning that one of them was miraculously healed from a deadly disease by the same person. They are torn apart afterwards as the healing brings them a terrible curse that wreaks harm and death.
The Positive: The most unforgettable horror films helmed by Chito RoƱo like “Sukob” and “Feng Shui” were based from Filipino (and Filipino-Chinese) superstitious beliefs. “The Healing” instantly earns a spot in this roster not just by tackling our culture’s fondness on faith healers but also for being a well-made storytelling that goes far beyond just startling the audience.
The film generates a respectable amount of suspense, thanks to the superb cinematography and editing. It takes a few unexpected turns while covering a familiar territory.
The Negative: The film has a very promising premise until it succumbs to flaws towards the end like the electrocuted spirit and the transfer of the curse to a character who is not qualified to receive it. The “trade off of misfortune” logline is somewhat similar to Feng Shui. It’s not difficult to figure out the twist, in fact, the Hollywood film “Final Destination” will come to mind in as early as the first half.

Sam Concepcion Shares First Big Screen Kiss with Tippy Dos Santos in ‘IDoBidoo Bidoo’

Teen heartthrob Sam Concepcion admits that Unitel’s comedy-musical IDoBidoo Bidoo is his biggest career break, and he is ultimately grateful that he has the promising Tippy Dos Santos as his leading lady.

The movie, which features the iconic songs of the Apo Hiking Society, is topbilled by the entertainment industry’s most respectable names Gary Valenciano, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Ogie Alcasid, and Eugene Domingo and is directed by box-office director Chris Martinez.
“Tippy and I have been friends since way back. We represented the country in a festival in Korea when we were kids, and last year, we were first paired in Peter Pan. I was Peter to her Wendy,” recounts Sam. “This is such a big break and I am thankful that I have Tippy by my side to support me.”
In the movie, Sam plays Rock Polotan, who has impregnated his girlfriend Tracy Fuentebella (Tippy). Conflict starts when their families come into the picture- the affluent Fuentebella Family (Zsa Zsa and Gary) and the poor yet musically-inclined Polotan Family (Ogie and Eugene).
IDoBidoo Bidoo marks Sam’s crossover to doing more challenging and mature roles, as he was required to do his first onscreen kiss in the movie.
“Being in the business for so long, I know some people’s perception of me is that I’m still 12 or 13, but thankfully, I was blessed with this movie that I get to make people realize that I am already a grown-up,” shares the teen heartthrob. “Working with Tippy has always been a breeze. We have this rapport that comes from years of friendship.”
Asked about the kiss, Sam says “when we did the scene, I was already Rock who is madly in love with Tracy. So, it was ok. The more memorable parts are the minutes before and after the take.”

Tippy adds, “this is my first movie, so the kissing scene made me really nervous, but because it is Sam, with direk Chris as our director, everything turned out well and romantic.”
Tippy was a seasoned, yet young theater actress before showbiz discovered her. She has appeared in TV shows like Idol, Shoutout, Growing Up, among others.
Sam and Tippy are grateful that Tony Gloria and Unitel Pictures entrusted this project to them.
“Unitel brought numerous cinematic gems like Crying Ladies, La Visa Loca, and the songs of APO mirror the history of the Filipino people, until now, we can’t believe that we were tapped to be a part of this landmark movie,” gushes Sam. “This is a movie that every Filipino family should watch.”
IDo Bidoo Bidoo starts showing this August 29 in cinemas nationwide.

The death of Mariel (Santos) was met with such hurt by her three closest friends. But it was her best friend, Carla (Calzado) that she leaves a most special gift, a box full of her diaries through the years. Carla has been Mariel’s friend since their high school years; they have practically shared everything in their lives together. Their two other girl friends, Sandra (Isidro) and Olive (De Belen) formed the quartet who would get together ever so often and served as a mutual support system. Despite warnings from Sandra and Olive not to read the diaries left behind by Mariel, Carla could not help herself to find out what was written on those volumes of handwritten materials. True enough, what she discovered completely shattered all her perceptions and beliefs of the friendship shared by the four women through the years. Inside those diaries were all the little secrets that the women kept from one another—all the hidden emotions, stories and comments that made their lives a sham. Death should be a closure but it could also be a terrible beginning and realization of what was hidden by the living.

One Minute Movie Review: ‘The Mommy Returns’

“The Mommy Returns” is a horror-comedy from Regal Films starring Ruffa Gutierrez, Gabby Concepcion, John Lapus and Pokwang.

THE MOMMY RETURNS
Main Cast: Gabby Concepcion, Pokwang, Ruffa Gutierrez
Supporting Cast: Gloria Diaz, John Lapus, Kiray Celis, Jillian Ward
Director: Joel Lamangan
Genre: Comedy, Fantasy
Released By: Regal Films
MTRCB Rating: PG-13
Synopsis: A mother dies on the night of her 25th wedding anniversary. From purgatory, she sees that another woman is set to replace her as mother and wife. She returned to her house as a ghost and tries to sabotage the relationship of his husband with his new wife to be.
The Positive: Pokwang and John Lapus are good comedians but the weak material leaves their antics less funny and less entertaining.
The Negative: “The Mommy Returns” will remind you of the Eva Longoria movie “Over My Dead Body” wherein the plot revolves around a female ghost trying to sabotage her boyfriend/husband’s current relationship with a new woman.
While the story is unoriginal, the jokes are not “kwela”, the cast, meanwhile, is uneven. Gabby Concepcion looks awkward in doing comedy, as well as Ruffa Gutierrez. The kids have no comedic timing either.
Hastily assembled and severely lacking in humor, “The Mommy Returns” is one of Joel Lamangan’s weakest outings ever.

Moron 5 and the Crying Lady – Movie Poster and Synopsis Released

Viva Films has released the official poster and synopsis for their upcoming comedy movie “Moron 5 and the Crying Lady” starring Luis Manzano, Billy Crawford, Marvin Agustin, Martin Escudero and John Lapus.

“Moron 5 and the Crying Lady” is an upcoming comedy movie from Viva Films starring Luis Manzano, Billy Crawford, DJ Durano, Marvin Agustin, Martin Escudero and John Lapus.

Also in the movie are German Moreno, Dennis Padilla, Arlene Muhlach, Deborah Sun, Jon Santos, and Carlos Agassi.

Here is the official synopsis of the movie:

Half-witted longtime friends Albert (Luis Manzano), Isaac (Billy Joe), Mozart “Mo” (DJ Durano), Michaelangelo “Mike” (Martin Escudero) and Aristotle“Aris” (Marvin Agustin) were used to living moronic yet pretty normal and hassle-free lives until successful careerwoman Becky Pamintuan (John Lapus) accused them of killing her father and ruin everything for them. The Moron 5 are more than sure of their innocence but for the life of them, they can’t find any single satisfactory argument on how to prove it especially when their opponent would do everything to punish them for whim. Spending three miserable years in prison trying different failed comedic attempts to get out, they finally figured a way to escape. They stalked Becky and tried to understand why she’s fighting so hard to have them imprisoned when it’s clear as day that what happened three years ago was a nonsense frame-up. An opportunity came when Becky’s driver got fired for having an affair with her maid and Albert volunteered to apply to replace him. He infiltrated the Pamintuan Residence and together with his four crazily daft friends, they’ve gathered information about the curious family yet to them, it isn’t making any sense at all especially Becky’s unexplained hatred to the five of them. Why is Becky fighting so hard to have them suffer? The Moron 5 will try their hardest to know and hopefully understand what’s really going on although little did they know that by doing so, everything that they hold dear might be at risk.

Helmed by blockbuster director Wenn Deramas, “Moron 5 and the Crying Lady” is set to open in theaters nationwide on April 7, 2012.
