“Paano Na Kaya?” Losses Steam, Box Office Cume to Date Only P77.5 M

Geral Anderson, Kim Chiu, Kimerald, Paano na kaya Trailer, Star Cinema
Posted by antoine on February 23, 2010

Mukhang di na aabot sa projected na P100M to P120M box office gross ang Star Cinema movie, its very first offering for 2010, — ang “Paano Na Kaya.” Sa third week nito in theaters, according to the recent results published by Box Office Mojo, nakakuha lamang ang Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson starrer ng P77.5 million. And since magbubukas na soon ang panibagong pelikula ng Star Cinema, the John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo reunion movie titled “Miss You Like Crazy,” malabo nang i-extend pa ang PNK.

“Hating Kapatid” – The Making of a Would-Be Blockbuster Film

Judy Ann Santos, Sarah Geronimo, hating kapatid, ABS-CBN Movies, Viva Films,
The people behind Viva Films, the outfit producing the Judy Ann Santos and Sarah Geronimo starrer tentatively titled “Hating Kapatid,” is in full throttle promoting the film, making sure it becomes a major success. Hating Kapatid has the makings of a would-be blockbuster film, and if it becomes a certified one, it will be Sarah’s third consecutive blockbuster movie in a row — a feat only a few Pinoy actor/actress ever achieved. And with Judy Ann in tow, sigurado na ang pagtabo nito sa takilya. Ang hihintayin nalang natin ay kung ilang milyon ang kikitain nito sa box office, at kung gagawa ba ito ng kasaysayan as one of the top Pinoy movies of all time.

Here’s the release that AccessPinoy got from Viva about “Hating Kapatid:”

This early, the local moviedom is celebrating already because of the much-awaited major movie project under Viva Films starring Judy Ann Santos and Sarah Geronimo.

Viva big boss Vic del Rosario is proud of the movie. He said, This is the first time that Juday and Sarah will be seen in a movie. That is a casting coup in itself. But other than the two of them, we also enlisted veteran actress Gina Pareño and Luis Manzano to join the cast. This is big.

The Viva producer also made sure that the movie will have the most excellent production values. Films also tapped the tried-and-tested tandem of Wenn Deramas and Mel Mendoza-del Rosario to direct and write the film, respectively. The biggest movie the two have worked on was the groundbreaking Ang Tanging Ina and its sequel starring Ai-Ai delas Alas.

The Judy Ann-Sarah movie, working title is Hating Kapatid, tells the story of sisters Rica and Cecilia who love each other so much that they are willing to sacrifice even their personal happiness to stay together.

The romance-comedy will make viewers laugh, cry, think, wish to fall and stay in love and realize that family members should be friends, too. Judy Ann and Sarah will showcase their outstanding comedic talents and their ability to make people cry.

But the Judy Ann-Sarah ticket is not the only tandem that people await in their movie. For the first time, Luis will play Sarah’s love interest. Also in the cast is Vice Ganda.

Judy Ann and Sarah bring to the table an unrivaled record of achievements in their respective careers that have made them the biggest stars of their generations.

Judy Ann is an award-winning and multi-nominated film and television actress. Since entering showbiz in 1986, she has appeared in more than 70 blockbuster movies with 12 Best Actress awards. Judy Ann stars on ABS-CBN’s Habang May Buhay.

Sarah, on the other hand, has been acknowledged both by the public and her peers as heir-apparent to concert and recording royalties what with hits and shows. She also has blockbusters You Changed My Life and A Very Special Love with John Lloyd Cruz.

Enchong Dee and Erich Gonzales Movie, Susunod Na!

Enchong Dee, Erich Gonzales, Star Cinema, ABS-CBN Movies, ABS-CBN,
Sa mga fans nina Enchong Dee and Erich Gonzales (EnRich), this piece of info is for you. At expected na sa kasalukuyang taon ito maipapalabas, possibly during the second half of 2010. Magiging successful kaya ang EnRich tandem sa kanilang pag-crossover on the big screen on their first movie team-up?

Heto ang ilang comments from Twitter congratulating Enchong’s performance on MMK:

Best Pinoy Horror Movies

Best Pinoy Horror Movies
An informal survey of younger pinoy directors revealed the best horror movies that continue to influence Filipino film aftists.

The choices are:

“Gabi Ng Lagim (Night of Horror) by underrated director Jose Miranda Cruz continues to be the classic Tagalog horror movie.

“Kung Bakit Dugo Ang Kulay Ng Gabi (Why the Night is the Color of Blood) by Celso Ad. Castillo is an unforgetable foray into the realm of the unknown, with the vampiric roles gamely taken on by Rita Gomez and Celia Rodriguez in their long black outfits and lips flowing with blood.

A second Castillo film, “Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara” (Scaring Barbara to Death) is included in the list. This mystery thriller won awards in the Asian Film Festival years back.

And who could forget Peque Gallaga’s supernatural shockfest “Shake, Rattle and Rollâ€, which became a serial franchise. “Shake, Rattle and Roll 9″ is up for release by end of the year. However, it was Gallaga’s original version that raised the fright bar for Filipino horror in succeeding years.

A most recent Filipino horror film, “Sigaw” has been produced for a Hollywood release. Director Yam Laranas is rightly proud of this development.

The American version, titled “The Echo” still has Laranas at the helm and also stars beauteous Filipina actress Iza Calzado who was in the original film.

Directors Choice

Brilliante Mendoza said it might be self-serving for him to say so, but he thinks that the “Syquijor” is one of the best Filipino horror films of all time.

Jowee Morel (Paru-Parong Rosas) considers “Syquijor” experimental and “a breakthrough.”

DirectorJeffrey Jeturian selects “Gumising Ka, Maruja and “Shake, Rattle and Roll as two of the best horror films of all time.

Erich Gonzales is set to prove herself on the big screen

Erich Gonzales, Star Cinema, Enchong Dee,
by Napoleon Quintos

After making waves on TV with her back-to-back hit teleseryes Katorse and Tanging Yaman, Erich Gonzales is gearing up to prove her worth as an actress on the big screen. Erich just signed an exclusive two-picture deal with Star Cinema, and she expressed her joy over this latest achievement in her career. “Hindi talaga ako makapaniwala. This has been yet another dream come true for me. Excited ako kasi hindi ko inakalang dadating ito. Makatrabaho lang ang Star Cinema is malaking honor pa, lalo na ngayon na makakapagbida na ako sa isang movie nila. I’m very thankful to Star Cinema, Ms. Malou Santos (Managing Director) sa tiwalang ibinigay niyo sa akin.”

Fans can also anticipate Erich top-billing a film opposite her ka-love team Enchong Dee. Erich added that she is thankful to all the fans who supported her team up with Enchong in Katorse and Tanging Yaman. “Nagpapasalamat ako sa mga taong sumuporta sa love team namin ni Enchong, mula sa Katorse and now sa Tanging Yaman. Itong gagawin naming pelikula e gift namin sa lahat ng supporters namin. Sila talaga ang nakapansin ng talent at chemistry namin ni Enchong so we will make sure na hindi namin sila bibiguin. Hopefully this year maipalabas ‘yung movie.”

Having a top-rating teleserye is one thing, but making a box-office hit movie is a totally different story. Erich confessed that she is feeling the pressure to prove that she also has magic over ticket sales just like others who had gone before her. “Kinakabahan ako, sobra. Hindi natin maiaalis na may pressure na maging hit itong pelikula, gaya ng nagawa nina Kim Chiu at Gerald Anderson, John Lloyd Cruz at Bea Alonzo. Pero ang iisipin ko na lang e pagbubutihin ko ang trabaho ko.”

It is still unsure who will star with Erich in her second film, but if given the chance, she would choose actors she looks up to. “I’m open to working with anyone. Naka-work ko na sa movie sina Piolo (Pascual), ngayon hopefully maka-work ko naman sina Coco Martin at John Lloyd kasi napakagaling nila, at siyempre si Ms. Judy Ann Santos.”

The 19-year-old Star Circle Quest season 2 winner’s career blossomed when she played a teenage mother in Katorse. When asked if she’s prepared for more mature and daring portrayals on the big screen, Erich said she is putting her whole trust in Star Cinema. “Walang problema sa akin basta maganda ‘yung story at challenging ‘yung character. Ipinagkakatiwala ko na po ‘yan sa Star Cinema because I’m sure they know what’s best for us. I will do my best.”

Miss You Like Crazy

Starring: John Lloyd Cruz & Bea Alonzo

Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina

For almost a decade, they made us believe in love. Such is the magic behind Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz’s phenomenally successful love team.

On February 24, the celebrated on-screen couple is set to recapture this magic once again in a special post-Valentine reunion for Star Cinema’s latest offering.
“Regalo namin ito sa mga fans namin,” says Bea, whose last big-screen team-up with John Lloyd in the movie One More Chance raked in millions at the box office and earned for them the titles of Box Office King and Queen for 2007. The film has not only boosted the couple’s local fan base but also strengthened their global following, making Bea and John Lloyd the most favorite love team among Filipino audiences all over the world.

To finally answer the fans’ clamor for another big screen team up after their last box office hit, what would be more perfect than another love story with a title that captures not just the fans’ common sentiment for the last three years but also the couple’s feelings about filming together again.

“’Yung pagiging sobra niyang mapagbiro sa set. ‘Yung tatawa lang kayo. ‘Yun ‘yung nakaka-miss,” says Bea about her leading man. John Lloyd, on the other hand, continues to believe in the value of their long history together. “Kasi yung pinagsamahan namin after ilang teleserye, nag-movie, yun ang hindi mo mababayaran, yun ang hindi mo mapapantayan.” This is probably the reason why John Lloyd thinks every new project with Bea becomes a celebration. “It becomes a big event all of a sudden. I’d like to believe na malaking step into maturity yun.”

Another cause for celebration in this new venture from Star Cinema is the couple’s reunion with box-office director Cathy Garcia-Molina, who also directed them in their last film together. This time, Direk Cathy guides John Lloyd and Bea toward embracing an off-beat romantic tale that would touch on the wrong sides of love, such as missteps and infidelity.

Direk Cathy further describes the plot as a love story told in a unique way, “Ibang-iba ang tono. Mas mature ang kilig moments.” In the film, John Lloyd plays a serious type of guy who suddenly found himself emotionally torn between her long-time girlfriend and a girl he just met. Bea, on the other hand, plays a bubbly lass whose destiny may have led her to the perfect man at the most imperfect time. “Madaming makaka-relate sa movie,” Bea enthuses, “Lalo na sa panahon ngayon. Sa mga di naniniwala sa destiny na naging jaded na, mapapa-isip ka, ‘ano kaya, totoo kaya ang destiny?’”

The film, which will be shot in both Philippines and Malaysia, also launches a promising big screen career for rising star Maricar Reyes. - ABS-CBN Film Productions Inc. (Star Cinema)
