The 2011 remake of Joey Gosiengfiao’s “Temptation Island” has been given a grade of “B” by the Cinema Evaluation Board.
This is good news for the Regal Films and GMA Films co-production which means the movie is entitled to a 65% amusement tax rebate.
“Temptation Island” the remake is helmed by Chris Martinez, the director of 2010′s box-office comedy hit “Here Comes the Bride” which also got a grade of B from the CEB.
The remake stars Marian Rivera, Solenn Heusaff, Heart Evangelista, Lovi Poe, Mikael Daez, Aljur Abrenica, John Lapus, Tom Rodriguez and Rufa Mae Quinto.
The film had a successful red carpet premiere last Sunday night at SM Megamall, graced by most of its stars, the director, producers and other celebrity supporters as well (CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE PICTURES).
“Temptation Island” opens in theaters nationwide tomorrow, July 6.
Star Cinema’s “Forever and a Day” starring Sam Milby and KC Concepcion had an opening weekend gross of P23.27 million at the box-office.
The Superhero movie Green Lantern topped Philippine box-office for the opening weekend of June 15 to 19 with a haul of P72 million, according to Box Office Mojo. And from the period of up to June 20 including the extended holiday for Jose Rizal’s 150th birth anniversary, the Ryan Reynolds-starrer accumulated P85.66 million, this one according to Warner Bros. Philippines.
The figure has now become the holder of the year’s biggest opening weekend for a Warner title surpassing “Red Riding Hood” and “Sucker Punch”, and the second-biggest of 2011 industry-wide outgrossing “X-Men: First Class,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and “Thor”.
Placing second, on the other hand, is local romantic drama “Forever and a Day” with P23.27 million box-office gross in its first 5 days. This is really tough for the Sam Milby-KC Concepcion starrer because their film is vying against 7 Hollywood summer movies and getting the no. 2 spot is already commendable.
Meanwhile, “X-Men: First Class” settled for no. 3 after topping Philippine box-office for 2 weeks in a row. “Super 8″ is at no.4 while “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” starring Jim Carrey debuted at no. 5.

“In the Name of Love” starring Angel Locsin and Aga Muhlach hits P117.2-M in 5 weeks, just P3-million short of beating “Catch Me…I’m In Love” as the no. 1 Pinoy movie of 2011.
Star Cinema’s hit-drama movie may still be showing in selected theaters but it’s going to be very limited since their new offering, “Forever and a Day,” starring Sam Milby and KC Concepcion just opened yesterday.
“In the Name of Love” needs at least P3-million this week in order to beat the record of “Catch Me…I’m In Love” as the no. 1 Pinoy movie (so far) for 2011 with a gross receipts of P120.21 million. It’s possible but it’s gonna be difficult to achieve.
Capturing the no. 1 slot again, in Philippine box-office, is 20th Century Fox’s “X-Men: First Class” with a haul of P38.49 million last weekend. The film has now raked-in a total P128.1 million in 2 weeks.
Kung Fu Panda 2, on the other hand, maintains second position while debuting films “Super 8″ and “The Hangover Part II” settles for 3rd and 4th respectively.
Kung Fu Panda 2, by the way, has dislodged Thor as the biggest film in the Philippines so far for 2011. The Jack Black-starrer has already accumulated P188.7 million at the box-office in just 2 weeks!

The full trailer for the upcoming sexy comedy film helmed by the phenomenal new director Chris Martinez has been released.
One of the reasons why “Temptation Island” is one of the must-see Pinoy movies of the year is because it is being directed by the sensational Chris Martinez.
I attended the launch of Nestle’s “Kasambuhay, Habambuhay” short film anthology last Friday at the Rockwell Cinema in Makati. Two of the 10 featured short films are helmed by Chris Martinez, The Howl and The Fussyket and Cooking Mo, Cooking Ko (CLICK HERE for related article). I must say, the said two films were both crowd-pleasers and perhaps the most applauded of the night.
This is the reason why I am excited for “Temptation Island.” I’m really looking forward to what will be Chris Martinez‘s attack in the helming of the Joey Gosiengfiao remake.
Take note that Martinez is also the director of the box-office hit “Here Comes the Bride,” the Cinemalaya winning-film “100″ and the outrageous “Gunaw” episode in “My Valentine Girls” starring Richard Gutierrez and Eugene Domingo. And include to his filmography the two “Habambuhay Kasambuhay” short films that I’ve mentioned. I can guarantee you, Martinez never disappoints!
Here is the official synopsis of the movie from Regal Films:
The film focuses on four young ladies from different social backgrounds and each for their own various reasons, enlists in the fictional “Miss Manila Sunshine Supermodel Search”.
The first of which is Virginia P. (Heart), a college student who entered the contest in order to earn independence from her family. Next is spoiled, rich socialite, Serafina F. (Lovi), whose every whim is attended to by her maid Maria (Rufa Mae), learned of the contest when fliers dropped from a helicopter interrupts her sunbathing at the family pool and out of sheer vanity decided to sign up. Thirdly, Pura K. (Solenn), while planning her 18th birthday party, when she and her mother argue over the budget, since her once rich family cannot afford the grand debut, Pura K. is forced to settle for a much simpler party. But during their argument, Bambi falls on her birthday cake; when sees the pageant’s TV spot, her frustrations over her current situation inspires her to join. Rounding up the group is Christina G. (Marian) a con-artist who plans to rig the contest by using her and her boyfriend’s sexuality to influence the judges into voting for her.
The ladies later became the finalists for the competition. En route to the evening gown competition, the ship they boarded catches fire, and the passengers scramble to evacuate. The four women, Maria, Joshua (the gay pageant coordinator played by John Lapuz) and his boyfriend (Mikael Daez), Umberto (one of the ship’s waiters played by Tom) and Alfredo (played by Aljur) land on a desert island.
Starring in “Temptation Island” remake are Marian Rivera, Heart Evangelista, Lovi Poe, Solenn Heussaff, Rufa Mae Quinto, John Lapus, Mikael Daez, Tom Rodriguez and Aljur Abrenica, with the special participation of Dennis Trillo.
It will open in theaters on July 6, 2011.

As of June 5, the Aga Muhlach-Angel Locsin starrer has already accumulated P114.36 million at the box-office, just P5.85 million short in beating the current no. 1, “Catch Me…I’m In Love.” This is the film’s 4th week and it still has one more week to go before the film company releases their June offering, “Forever and a Day” starring Sam Milby and KC Concepcion.
Topping the Philippine box-office last weekend was “X-Men: First Class” with a decent 5-days haul of P71.1 million.
Previous leader, “Kung Fu Panda 2″, settled for second place with P53.5 million. It now has a 2 weeks-total P161 million, very much on track to beat Thor‘s record of being the biggest movie in the Philippines for 2011.
