‘Imburnal’ Wins 2 Awards from 10th Jeonju International Film Festival

The Cinema One indie film “Imburnal” took home two trophies from Korean filmfest.

Imburnal, by Sherad Anthony Sanchez, took home the Woosuk and the NETPAC award in the recently concluded 10th Jeonju International Film Festival, the second most prestigious in Korea after Pusan IFF. The nine-day film fest was held from April 30 to May 8, featuring 200 films from 42 countries.

The Woosuk award, which comes with a cash prize of $10,000, is given to the film that contributes to widen the scope and depth in contemporary cinema. This is the first award captured by the Philippines via the Cinema One Originals Best Picture winner “Imburnal.”

The second award grabbed Imburnal was the NETPAC award, or the best Asian feature film screened at JIFF. Imburnal bested 12 other countries for this award.

The Audience Award, on the other hand, was snatched by Maeda Tetsu’s “School Days with a Pig.” The Japanese film took home 2 million Korean won.

The Daum Special Jury Prize was won by Algeria’s “Inland.”

The other Filipino film that participated at Jeonju was Lav Diaz’ “Butterflies Have No Memories.”
